What to Wear for Your Engagement Photoshoot

“What should we wear?” is easily one of the most common questions we get before an engagement session. Here’s our honest take.

Coordinate, Don’t Match

Matching outfits exactly can look staged. Instead, aim for a shared colour palette — one person in a solid colour, the other in a complementary tone or subtle pattern. This keeps photos looking cohesive without feeling like a costume.

Consider Your Location

Bright, busy patterns can clash with a detailed background, while solid neutrals tend to photograph well almost anywhere. If you’re shooting somewhere with lots of greenery, jewel tones and earthy neutrals both work beautifully.

Bring a Second Outfit

A simple outfit change halfway through — from dressy to casual, for example — gives your gallery more variety without needing two separate sessions.

What to Avoid

  • Busy logos or text on clothing
  • All-white or all-black outfits together (tends to look flat)
  • Brand-new shoes you haven’t broken in

Still Not Sure?

Send us a few outfit options before your shoot and we’ll help you pick. We want your photos to feel like you, not like a stock photo shoot.
